my adult industry history part II

That next summer, I found out about a club in a small town about an hour away. The club was called Charlie’s (now it’s a Baby Dolls, part of the chain I worked for in Dallas). Thursday through Saturday nights they featured “Charlie’s Angels.” I didn’t like the drive, but since it was a bikini bar, I persuaded the boyfriend to let me check it out. If we both liked the place, I could try it.

It was a private-membership club to skirt the local liquor laws. Although I wasn’t yet 21, they let me in when I explained I wanted to work there. The DJ and a manager took turns explaining things to me. There wasn’t much to know. It was a bikini bar, but I could just wear lingerie, as long as it wasn’t sheer. There wasn’t much to see. Seemed harmless enough for a naive college kid and podunk enough for my total lack of dancing skills.

code like a girl

I came across this phrase a few weeks ago while looking for information on some CSS topic I was struggling with. I could immediately identify because I pore over my code until it’s perfect (to me). Occassionally, I let things slip. But they nag at me every time I see the code until I have to straighten it out. I even clean up the sloppy code on scripts I end up not using. I can’t stand testing a messy script. (I don’t know if this is a girl thing or an obsessive-compulsive thing.)

So in honor in these two blog posts: the simple definition and the more-detailed version, I created a button for anyone who wants to let the world know they are code perfectionists.

code like a girl button

I used a free button-maker I found online. If code is poetry (the motto of WordPress), then girly code is haiku.

steve irwin

During a random Internet check last night, my lover found a breaking news bit about Steve Irwin being killed in a diving accident. Since it was very fresh news and only CNN seemed to have anything to report, I thought perhaps they were wrong. I hoped they were wrong.

We both waited and kept checking. By the time we went to sleep, it was obvious that the news was real. Stevo had died.

my adult industry history part I

People talk about “falling” into the adult industry all the time, as though it’s easy to do. As though it’s just right there waiting to grab anyone who steps off the path for minute. I found out that getting into this world is very difficult. I had to fight and struggle for a few years before I finally broke my way into making money off “selling” myself. Or maybe it’s just my usual method of doing everything the hard way.

I’ve decided to share my lumps and bumps on the road to where I am today. Everyone has a history and it usually isn’t glamorous. I’m no exception, but I hope you’ll enjoy the droll misadventures of a determined-to-be-deviant college girl.

domain squatting

I just emerged the loser in a battle of wits with an imbecile. But I’m laughing.

Although I own about a dozen domain names (and carry a couple more in trust for other organizations), I’m still purchasing more names for my upcoming book. It’s fun and feels like buying really cheap real estate (at $10 a pop you can’t get cheaper land). I came up with one combination of words that I thought I would like to own but it was already taken.
